Imagine that you have daughter, granddaughter, or sister who is in or entering middle school. That is certainly not difficult for me... Margaret is 10 and will be in sixth grade next year. Here in Texas middle school is grades 6 - 8; ages range from 11 to 14. What advice would you give this relative regarding their education? Is it time to think about the future or just be a kid? School may seem like the only place to interact with many of your friends, and the future seems a long way off. How did your experiences at this age shape your later life, or did they?

There has to be time to be a kid and a time to study. I guess it's important to find a balance. I think both are equally necessary. There is a lot more homework now than there was for the previous generation. Is there more to learn or what? What's the point of life if you don't have time for enjoyment. And what's the point of life if you don't contribute something to your world - which requires an education. Finding the correct balance would be difficult. Maybe it would help the social aspect if kids learned together in groups, giving feedback to each other and using social interaction to help in the learning process.
